Before move-out
- Confirm the move-out date and the next move-in date.
- Decide what the unit needs: cleaning, interior painting, floor care, or all three.
- Book your vendors early, especially at month end when many units turn at once.
Walk the unit after move-out
- Note the condition of walls, floors, carpet, appliances, cabinets and bathrooms.
- Take photos for your records.
- Share the notes with your vendor so the scope is clear.
Typical turnover cleaning areas
Scope varies by property and is agreed with you. Areas property managers commonly ask about:
- Kitchen: appliances inside and out, cabinets, counters, sink
- Bathrooms: tub or shower, toilet, sink, mirrors, cabinets
- Floors, baseboards, windowsills and blinds
- Light fixtures, switches and outlets
- Closets and storage areas
Order the work
Paint and floor work usually come before the final clean, so the unit is clean when the next resident walks in. Coordinate the order with your vendors.
Final check before move-in
- Walk the unit or review photos of the finished work.
- Check that keys, fobs and appliances are ready.
